How Long Will My Braces Be On?

Length of treatment depends on many things. Surprisingly, age does not play a major part in determining treatment time. It's the complexity of the problem that is probably the greatest factor. Some minor corrections might take only a few months to treat. Comprehensive treatment can range from one to three years. It is important to note that treatment time can be significantly shortened when the patient cooperates and carefully follows instructions! Patients generally remain under our supervision for an additional year or so of retention after braces are removed.

What Will Orthodontic Treatment Be Like?

The age of the patient and nature of the malocclusion will determine what type of orthodontic treatment and appliances are needed. Treatments can range from a relatively simple, removable retainer to more complex, cemented braces with which you might be most familiar. In addition to braces, sometimes auxiliary appliances (like headgear or a Herbst appliance) are needed to redirect jaw growth. After the braces are removed, retainers are worn 24/7 for an additional year or more to keep teeth in their corrected position.

How Much Does Orthodontic Treatment Cost?

The cost of treatment can vary depending on the severity of the malocclusion and the length of time required to correct it. At your initial exam, we will determine the necessary treatment to correct any problems and discuss the total cost of the treatment with you. There are no additional charges for visits, adjustments or appliances, except for excessive breakage and lack of patient cooperation.
